Family Literacy

volunteer reading at family literacy night

Parents play a key role as their children’s first and best teachers: to help children develop the skills, attitudes, and habits for achieving school success.

Literacy Advance supports this through the Family Literacy program, held in schools and libraries across Houston.

Parents hear a presentation (in either English or Spanish) about the importance of literacy for children, with practical hints and tips for incorporating reading and literacy into the home.

Children hear stories read aloud and do activities together before choosing a free book, to start or add to their home library.
