June 22, 2006
Literacy Advance honored Dr. Susan A. Danahy of Pensacola, Florida as its ninth Champion of Literacy at a breakfast on June 22, 2006. The morning was a Champion success with Roseann Rogers, KPRC Local 2's "The Buzz Lady," as the Honorary Chair and Mistress of Ceremonies.
Dr. Danahy, a licensed psychologist in private practice, has written two short stories that are a result of the work she has done with individuals, families, and groups. The Story of the Hula Hoop is a short story that uses the symbol of a childhood toy, the hula hoop, to communicate a creative way to make better decisions about the priorities in everyday life. Little Miss Perfect and The Perfect Picture is a short story about the importance of embracing the little imperfections
in everyday life and in relationships.
Literacy Advance Volunteer Tutor Kristina Ireland and ESL Learner Paquita Landeta shared their experiences at Literacy Advance. Guests participated in a raffle to raise additional funds for Literacy Advance.
