Take Classes at Literacy Advance

The Wilcrest student registrations for the fall semester are FULL. Call on Thursday, November 16 to make an appointment to register for the spring semester in 2018. Call early - many people will call on this day. Registration will be full very fast.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT come to our office to make an appointment. You must call us on the phone to make an appointment. If you come to the office, we will ask you to go outside, and call us. Read more here.
We hope to help you soon!

English as a second language

Literacy Advance ESL Class

All Literacy Advance classes are free. For this reason, there is a wait list. You will probably wait to register, and after you have registered, you will wait again for classes.

We are sorry that you must wait. Many people want classes. Thank you for understanding, and being patient. We help as many people as we can.

We have classes in other places.
If you can take classes in the Bay Area, or in Waller County, there is no wait.

Who can come to class?

To come to class, you must:

  • Be 18 or older
  • Not be on probation for a violent crime
  • Have a Houston address, and not be a visitor or tourist.

What classes are there?

We have 2 main programs:

1. Basic Reading and Writing

If you already speak English, but want to improve your reading and writing, you will join our Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes. These are classes in basic reading and writing. Each class has just one student. Each student meets with their own tutor.

2. English Speaking and Listening

If you want to speak and understand English better, you will come to our English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. These are classes in speaking and listening to English, with some reading and writing. Each class has 5 - 10 students with a tutor.

Do you have HSE/GED?

All our classes are for basic learning. We do not have HSE/GED, and we do not have advanced classes. When you are ready, we will help you with your next step through our Transition Program.

What do I do to start class?

You must come to Student Registration before you can start classes.
Student Registration is held regularly at the main Wilcrest campus in West Houston, at the Bay Area campus, and at our far-west Houston campus in Waller County.

To make an appointment to register at Wilcrest, call 713.266.8777 on Thursday, November 16, 2017.

To ask about registration at Bay Area, call 281.282.6032 during the week.

To ask about registration at Waller, call 281.766.4724 during the week.

What will happen next?

After you finish Student Registration, you will be on our waitlist.
We will call you when we have a class for you. You will probably wait at least 4 - 6 months.
