Take Classes at Literacy Advance

There are two different classes:

Basic Reading and Writing

  • For people who can speak English.
  • For people who want to improve their basic reading and writing.
  • Each class is one student with one volunteer tutor.
  • This class is called Adult Basic Education, or ABE.

English Speaking and Listening

  • For people who want to speak and understand English better.
  • Each class is 5 - 10 students with one volunteer tutor.
  • This class is called English as a Second Language, or ESL.

All Literacy Advance classes are free.

All our classes are for basic learning.

We do not have HSE/GED

To come to class, you must:

  • Be 18 or older.
  • Not be on probation for a violent crime.
  • Have a Houston address, and not be a visitor or tourist.

There are three locations:

  • Literacy Advance Wilcrest (west Houston):
    2424 Wilcrest Drive, Houston, TX 77042
  • Literacy Advance Bay Area (Clear Lake):
    1300-A Bay Area Blvd, Houston, TX 77058
  • Literacy Advance Waller County (Brookshire):
    531 FM 359 South, Brookshire, TX 77423

You must register before you can start classes. Get information about how to register for classes.

After you register, you will be on our waitlist.
We will call you when we have a class for you.
